The United Nations World Food Programme Launches “Feed Our Future” A Global Cinema Advertising Campaign Dedicated to Ending Hunger

Supported by SAWA, the Global Cinema Advertising Association, ad to air in more than 30 countries with the call to action to and take action to help end hunger through WFP’s ShareTheMeal app, supported by a Facebook and Instagram marketing campaign.

A powerful new global cinema advertising campaign featuring leading names from the film, advertising and humanitarian worlds, and aimed at stirring global cinema audiences into action to tackle global hunger, launched in theaters across the world and on Facebook and Instagram on September 24, to coincide with the start of the annual United Nations General Assembly session in New York. SAWA, the Global Cinema Advertising Association, in association with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the world’s leading humanitarian organization fighting hunger worldwide, created the “Feed Our Future” campaign to highlight the potential that is lost every time a child dies of hunger.

Refugee and migrant children arriving on Greek Islands up by one-third in 2018 - UNICEF

The number of refugee and migrant children who arrived on the Greek Islands between January and August has risen by 32 percent compared to the same time-period last year. Over 7,000 children – on average more than 850 every month – have made the dangerous journey by sea, with most ending up in overcrowded and unsafe facilities.

155 children left orphaned or separated from their parents in DRC’s latest Ebola outbreak - UNICEF

UNICEF and its partners have so far identified 155 children who have been orphaned or left unaccompanied as a result of the latest Ebola outbreak in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). This figure includes children who have lost one or both parents, or primary caregivers to Ebola, as well as those who have been left unaccompanied while their parents are isolated in Ebola treatment centres.

Central African Republic: EU releases €26.5 million to respond to the regional humanitarian crisis

The European Commission has allocated €26.5 million in emergency aid for vulnerable families affected by the humanitarian crisis in the Central African Republic and its spill-over into neighbouring countries.

The funding comes as some 2.5 million, half the country's population, are in need of assistance, with the crisis triggering an influx of refugees into neighbouring countries.

A Europe that delivers: EU citizens expect more EU level action in future

Recent Eurobarometer data confirms that, rather than a declining faith in the EU to deliver, EU citizens expect the EU to do more to address their main concerns.

Since 2016 the European Parliament has been measuring citizens’ perceptions and expectations of action taken by the EU in 15 core policy areas. The latest survey, carried out in April this year, finds that whilst an ever greater share of respondents are satisfied with action taken by the EU to address concerns about security, jobs and the environment, calls for more EU action in nearly all policy areas are no less significant. This flies in the face of the EU’s critics who accuse it of irrelevance or over-regulation.
