There has been a slow anger building in countries where secrets have been revealed on the Wikileaks Web site.

In one of the most recent postings WikiLeaks has revealed how the US views some world leaders, including Russian prime minister, Vladimir Putin.

The blunt and unflattering view of Putin was contained in revelations, apparently originating from the US embassy in Moscow, that Russia is considered to be a virtual Mafia state.

Mr Putin has played down the impact of the leaks, which suggested the Kremlin works hand in hand with organised crime.

The US House of Representatives has decided to extend tax cuts for middle class Americans.

The House passed the bill that keeps tax rates low for Americans making less than $200,000.

Wealthier Americans will be cut out of the rate reduction.

The Democratic-led bill is expected to fail in the Senate where Republicans favour low rates for all taxpayers, even if it means adding billions of dollars to US budget deficits.

Rates favouring wealthier taxpayers were enacted by President George W Bush and Republican members in 2001 and 2003.

The South Korean defence minister-designate has threatened a retaliatory strike if North Korea should attack the country again.

Kim Kwan-Jin, speaking in the South Korean parliament, said the military would strike back to punish the attacker.

Kim said the South Korean government would definitely use the air force.
