After U.S. President Joe Biden recently proposed a three-stage ceasefire plan for the Gaza Strip, the White House announced a joint statement on the 6th from the leaders of 17 countries. The statement urged Hamas to accept the U.S.-proposed Israel-Palestine ceasefire agreement and called on Israel to make the necessary compromises to achieve the goal of a ceasefire in the Gaza region.

The three-stage ceasefire agreement includes a permanent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, and the release of soldiers and hostages held by Hamas. The final stage involves the reconstruction of Gaza.

According to informed American officials, Biden announced the ceasefire plan without prior consent from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. After the plan was announced, leaders from countries including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Brazil, Colombia, Canada, Argentina, Austria, Portugal, Denmark, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Spain, Serbia, and Thailand signed the joint statement expressing their support.

Currently, personnel from the White House Middle East Affairs Office and the CIA have begun coordinating ceasefire arrangements. They are urging Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey to pressure Hamas and are calling on multiple countries to freeze financial accounts of Hamas senior officials or restrict their travel to apply pressure.

Media reports indicate that Hamas, after reviewing the U.S. ceasefire proposal, deemed the proposal lacking in commitment and insisted that Israel must first commit to a permanent ceasefire before accepting the peace agreement. A spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Hamas has not yet formally responded.
