Chinese President Xi Jinping met with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on June 19, 2023. This meeting marked the first time a U.S. Secretary of State visited China and met with the Chinese President since 2018.

During the meeting, Xi emphasized that China and the United States should be partners rather than adversaries. He highlighted the importance of mutual achievement rather than mutual harm, seeking common ground while respecting differences, and avoiding malicious competition. Xi expressed that the Earth is vast enough to accommodate the joint development and prosperity of both China and the United States.

Blinken, on the other hand, pledged that the United States would manage its relationship with China in a way that aligns with the interests of both countries and the world. While this meeting is widely seen as an important step toward restoring healthy bilateral relations, cautious observation remains necessary.

In addition, Xi and Blinken reached five major consensuses:
1. Respecting Core Interests: Both sides agreed to respect each other's core interests.
2. Seeking Common Interests: They emphasized the importance of seeking common interests.
3. Enhancing Communication and Coordination: Xi and Blinken committed to improving communication and coordination.
4. Promoting People-to-People Exchanges: They aimed to enhance cultural and human exchanges.
5. Addressing Global Challenges Together: The two leaders recognized the need for joint efforts in tackling global challenges.

These consensuses are expected to contribute to the improvement of China-U.S. relations.
