Chain Explosions at Military Arsenal in Indonesian Capital's Suburbs
On the evening of the 30th, an explosion occurred at an ammunition depot in the suburbs of Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. The blast resulted in a large fire, causing panic among nearby residents. The Indonesian government swiftly dispatched firefighting teams to the scene.
Jakarta's military chief, Major General Hashan, stated, "Our analysis suggests that the explosion may have been caused by expired ammunition. This type of ammunition, made from chemical substances, is highly unstable, which is why we no longer use it." Local media outlet KompasTV aired videos captured by residents, showing the explosion and subsequent fire around 6:30 p.m. local time. The ammunition depot emitted bright orange flames, illuminating the night sky, accompanied by billowing smoke. Even people several kilometers away could hear the intense explosion and screams.
Authorities promptly evacuated nearby residents, and as of the morning of the 31st, the fire has been extinguished with no reported casualties. However, the Indonesian military indicated that the ignition point appears to be the area within the arsenal where expired ammunition was stored. The exact cause of the explosion remains to be determined, and there is a possibility that shells or bullets may have scattered in the surrounding vicinity. Citizens are urged not to touch these objects.
