In November last year, the Yemeni rebel youth movement (Houthi, an armed Houthi organization) began to attack international merchant ships passing through the Red Sea, causing global shipping chaos and creating the Red Sea Crisis, and on February 2, a British freighter in the southern waters of the Red Sea was sunk by the Yemeni rebel youth movement, and a large amount of fertilizers and fuel oils on board the ship were lost to the sea, impacting the marine ecosystem.

The Rubymar, a British cargo ship, was first attacked by the Youth Movement on February 18th. The ship was not sunk, but it had lost most of its power and was only drifting on the surface of the sea. The Yemeni government intended to tow the Rubymar to a safe harbor, but the Rubymar sank on the 2nd without waiting for the towing operation.

According to "Reuters", "Associated Press" reported, Yemeni government statement on the 2nd, Ruby has sunk in the southern Red Sea, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade and Operations Organization (UKMTO) also confirmed receipt of the report of the sinking of the ship in the Red Sea waters, and said that the military authorities have been pre-evacuated from the crew, although the report did not name the ship for the Ruby, but the location of the Ruby should be the Ruby is not wrong.

The Ruby was loaded with 41,000 metric tons of chemical fertilizers, and with the fuel oil leaking from the missile strike, the oil slick spread over 29 kilometers, which will have a significant impact on the ecology of the Red Sea waters. According to satellite photos provided by Maxar Technologies, it appears that the Ruby was attacked again on the 2nd, with new scars on the hull, which may be the main cause of the sinking, but so far the Youth Movement has not yet made any comment on the new attack on the Ruby.
