Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Visits North Korea, Both Sides Agree to Safeguard Common Core Interests

According to North Korean state media, North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui met with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong. Both sides agreed to deepen the friendly cooperation between the two countries on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and North Korea, strengthen strategic communication and coordination, and exchange views on issues such as the relationship between the two countries, the international and regional situation, etc. They also declared that they will strengthen strategic communication at all levels and closely coordinate multilateral cooperation.

According to Agence France-Presse, China is North Korea’s largest economic supporter and traditional ally. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is seeking to consolidate relations between North Korea and China while strengthening his tough stance against South Korea.

While Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong was visiting North Korea, US National Security Advisor Sullivan was also preparing to meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Thailand. After years of tense relations between the two superpowers, the US and China are seeking to improve their relationship.
