On the 21st, the United Nations General Assembly voted 118 to 0 to pass the "Olympic Truce" draft resolution, calling for the hosting of the Olympic Games in Paris, France, next year during the period of all hostilities can be suspended, the truce period will be from next year's Summer Olympics in Paris before the start of the seven days, to the end of the Paris Paris Paralympic Games after the seven days. The tradition of the Olympic Truce dates back to the ancient Olympic Games of 776 BC.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) officially reinstated the Olympic Truce in 1992. The international situation is now characterized by turmoil and uncertainty in the wake of the war between Ukraine and Russia and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. France, the host country of the Olympic Games, together with the IOC, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the Olympic Organizing Committee (OOC), launched the Paris 2024 Olympic Truce Draft Resolution at the United Nations General Assembly, which was addressed by the President of the Paris Organizing Committee (POC), Tony Estanguet, and the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, in a speech at the UN General Assembly.

Maria Zabolotskaya, Russia's deputy ambassador to the UN, disagreed and abstained. Pointing to the political interference in sports, which prevents Russian athletes from participating in international sports competitions and deprives Russia of the right to host international events at home, he described the IOC's approach as hypocritical and self-centered.

During the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, Russia voted in favor of the previous Olympic Truce. However, only four days after the closing of the Winter Olympics, Russia began its attack on Ukraine. As a result, a number of sports federations have unanimously penalized Russia by banning the use of the Russian national anthem and flag in competitions; the IOC has yet to decide whether to ban Russian athletes from next year's Paris Olympics.
