Congo's High Unemployment Rate Leads to Surge in Recruitment Activities, Resulting in Overcrowding and Accidents
A few days ago, a stampede occurred in Congo, Africa, resulting in 31 deaths and more than 140 injuries.
The Congolese authorities were organizing a recruitment drive for soldiers in the Congolese capital city of Brazzaville, which attracted hundreds of people to line up at the stadium to register; however, due to the limited number of places available, the scene was crowded and eventually turned into a stampede, resulting in the deaths of at least 31 people and injuries to more than 140 others in the stampede.
According to the data of the International Labor Organization, the unemployment rate of male Congolese is as high as 20%, and the unemployment rate of young people is even more than 40%, so many young people regard being a soldier as an iron-clad job; due to the limited number of quotas, they scrambled to apply for the job, but they didn't realize that there were too many people on the spot, and the scene was chaotic, resulting in a regrettable incident of pushing and stepping on the ground.
