Save the Children strongly condemns the Saudi and UAE-led coalition airstrike that killed at least 20 people at a wedding, thought to be mostly women and children. Thirty others were also reportedly injured in the attack in Hajja in northwest Yemen on Sunday.

"The killing of innocent children is absolutely abhorrent and far too many have already died senselessly in this brutal war,” said Tamer Kirolos, Save the Children’s Country Director in Yemen.

"Airstrikes directed at civilians are clear violations of international humanitarian law and the international community must take collective responsibility and action to protect children in conflict. This blatant disregard for the lives of civilians by all parties must stop. The loss of a child’s life simply cannot go on being treated as collateral damage.

“Save the Children believes every child deserves to live in peace, but this cannot and will not happen in Yemen until there is an end to this vicious war which neither side can win. All parties must commit to an urgent ceasefire and a peace deal to spare the lives of Yemeni children."
