OSCE Chairperson-in-Office condemns the launch of ballistic missile by Democratic People’s Republic of Korea
OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, condemned on 7 February in the strongest terms the launch of a ballistic missile by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).
“The country has, again, defied warnings of the international community. The missile launch is an irresponsible provocation in disregard of UN Security Council resolutions that are binding under international law. Repeatedly, DPRK has thus jeopardized the security of the region.”
Pointing to the relevant resolutions that ban nuclear tests and ballistic missile launches, Steinmeier urged DPRK to cease all of its respective programmes.
The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office called for a strong reaction of the international community as DPRK’s “open defiance” might not remain without palpable consequences.
“The extraordinary session of the UN Security Council summoned for today is an important signal. We call on all partners to support resolute measures.”
