Statement on the death of Marcel Rudasingwa, former UNICEF Representative in Kenya
UNICEF mourns the sudden death of our colleague and friend, Mr. Marcel Rudasingwa.
Mr. Rudasingwa began his UNICEF career in the tragedy of Rwanda in 1994 and died while helping prevent tragedy in West Africa, as UN Assistant Secretary-General and Ebola Crisis Manager with UNMEER in Guinea.
During two decades of service with UNICEF, he held posts in Rwanda, Djibouti and Denmark, before being appointed as UNICEF Representative in Guinea, Mali and, most recently, Kenya.
His many friends across UNICEF remember Mr. Rudasingwa as an indomitable spirit who brought a sense of joy, passion, and purpose to his work for children.
While we do not know the exact cause of Mr. Rudasingwa’s death, we can confirm that it was not related to the Ebola virus.
Our thoughts are with Mr. Rudasingwa’s wife and two children, to whom we all extend our deepest condolences.
