India Warns Pakistan Over Kashmir Attacks
India's defense minister has warned Pakistan against launching what he calls unprovoked attacks on Indian-controlled Kashmir.
Arun Jaitley said Thursday that if Pakistan continues with what he called “adventurism” on the border then Indian forces would make the costs of Pakistan's actions “unaffordable.”
Jaitley called the weapons firing an effort to precipitate tension where none existed.
Indian and Pakistani forces have been trading fire across the Kashmir border in recent days.
At least nine Pakistani and eight Indian civilians have been killed in the skirmishes, while dozens more have been injured. India says 80 villages have been struck by the firing, forcing thousands to flee their homes for safety.
Tensions between the two countries have intensified since India called off talks with Pakistan last month after the Pakistani High Commissioner held a round of talk with Kashmiri separatists. India said Pakistan has to choose between talking to New Delhi or the separatists.
