Taliban Attack on Afghan Government Compound Kills 12
Afghan officials say a Taliban attack on a government compound in the country's east has killed at least 12 people and wounded at least 80 others.
Ghazni, Afghanistan
Police say the assailants set off two huge truck bombs early Thursday outside the office of Afghanistan's spy agency in Ghazni province, shattering glass that caused many of the casualties. Eight police officers were among the dead.
Officials say the explosions were followed by gun battles with Afghan security forces that killed 19 of the attackers.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
The attack underlined the growing insecurity in Afghanistan, which is struggling with a political crisis involving disputed election results.
