French PM Presents Government’s Resignation
French President Francois Hollande has dissolved the government
Prime Minister Manuel Valls offered up the resignation of his Socialist government on Monday and Mr. Hollande accepted, ordering the prime minister to form a new government by Tuesday.
The political move follows Economy Minister Arnaud Montebourg's recent criticism of the country's economic policies and his questioning of ally Germany's budgetary actions.
France is under pressure from the European Union to get its finances in order, but Montebourg has questioned whether the austerity pressed by the EU will actually benefit France.
