He met President Traian Basescu, Foreign Minister Titus Corlăţean and Bogdan Aurescu, secretary of state within the Romanian Foreign Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and spoke at a special session of the annual meeting of the Romanian diplomatic corps.

Zannier congratulated the Romanian diplomatic corps on its 150th anniversary, and welcomed their sustained engagement and furthering OSCE efforts to strengthen regional security. He discussed continuing and emerging security challenges, including in neighbouring regions, and emphasized the importance of working with international partners and civil society to meet these threats.

“Co-operation and co-ordination among a diverse range of actors has become essential - hence the increasing relevance of the OSCE’s partnership with several Mediterranean and Asian countries, and with other international organizations,” he said.

Zannier also met Laszlo Borbely, the Chairperson of the Committee for Foreign Policy of the Chamber of Deputies and the delegation of Romania to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

During his visit the Secretary General held a lecture at the Black Sea University Foundation, where he spoke about “The OSCE – security through co-operation”.
