Following the explosions on Sunday riots broke out in the cities of Kaduna, Zaria and in the capital city Lagos.

Members of Nigeria's clergy have called for an end to the violence which has been dogging the Christian community in Nigeria.

On Sunday morning three churches were bombed in Kaduna and Zaria, where tensions have been rising between Christians and Muslims.

After news was released that the blasts had killed 21 people and injured at least one hundred, tensions boiled over and people took to the streets.

A 24-hour curfew was declared in the state capital.

Kaduna has been the centre of religious tensions since the 2011 elections when riots broke out over political and religious issues.

Kaduna is a divided community, like most of Nigeria, between Muslims and Christians.

It is believed the Islamist militant group known as Boko Haram was responsible for the attacks.

The group has made many similar attacks and has been responsible for more than 1,000 deaths in attacks against churches, schools, government buildings and newspaper offices.
