Child massacre accusations fall on Syrian government
The Syrian government has blamed armed terrorists for the killing of 108 civilians near the city of Homs last Friday.
Witnesses have alleged the civilians, from the town of Houla, were chopped down by pro-government militiamen.
The brutal act involved many women and children, in fact more than a third of the fatalities were children.
UN observers, based in Syria, have urged the government and the opposition to hold talks to put an end to the violence.
While observers have not been able to say who was to blame for the Friday massacre, they have confirmed they observed government tanks firing at houses in Houla on Friday.
The United Nations has confirmed 32 of those killed in the Houla attack were children under ten years old.
There have since been angry protests over the killings across many parts of Syria, including the capital Damascus where some protesters have been fired upon.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry has alleged the atrocities were carried out by armed terrorists rather than Syrian forces, who were supposedly locked into positions during the massacre.
Meanwhile the deputy prime minister of Britain has suggested Syrian delegation members with connections to the regime will be denied entry to the country during this year's Olympic Games.
Nick Clegg has told the BBC that evidence of human rights abuses in Syria will exclude some delegation members from entering Britain.
