Chinese expansion a threat says Biden
The US Vice President, Joe Biden, has suggested the Obama administration should put in place new policies to reinforce US influence through Asia.
Speaking at the US Military Academy on Saturday, Mr Biden said Washington should be actively involved in countering the rising power and influence of China in the Asian region.
He said the United States would focus on issues in Asia, in relationship to the country's "critical relationship" with China.
Recently the Pentagon detailed information that China had been building up its military hardware, spending US$180 billion last year.
Pentagon officials also accused Chinese nationals of committing economic espionage around the world, including the US where they said the problem had become "a growing threat to US economic security."
President Barack Obama last year said he would like to reinforce US influence across the Asia-Pacific.
With troops home from Iraq and the conflict in Afghanistan winding down, he said new military strategies for Asia would receive more attention.
