Afghan security operation takes the lives of militants
2012-05-27
Thirteen Taliban militants have been killed by Afghan security forces.
The Afghan Interior Ministry has detailed an operation which involved Afghan security forces and NATO-led coalition forces in joint cooperation to capture and detain militants.
Operations were centred in Laghman, Kandahar, Zabul, Wardak, Logar, Ghazni, and Farah provinces.
Around fifteen Taliban soldiers were captured, mostly by Afghan policemen and army troops, during battles over a 24 hour period.
The ministry said many weapons had been recovered from the militants who recently announced a so-called Spring offensive against Afghan and NATO troops.
