Fresh US drone strike kills four militants in Pakistan
At least four suspected militants were killed when a US drone fired two missiles at a compound in northwest Pakistan Wednesday, intelligence officials said.
The attack was launched in Datta Khel town in the North Waziristan tribal area. Though the identities of the suspected slain militants were not known, but it is believed that they may be from the Haqqani terror network because the area is their stronghold, officials said, pleading anonymity because they are not authorized to talk to the media.
The new drone strike comes a day after a US Senate panel voted to cut aid to Pakistan by 58 per cent vowing to further reduce the aid if NATO supply lines to Afghanistan were not re-opened immediately.
The subcommittee said that the aid was being cut because US should not invest its capital in an uncooperative nation.
Drone strikes have become contentious between the US and Pakistan with Islamabad calling for an end to such attacks within its borders.
Washington says the strikes are inevitable in the war against Al Qaida and the Taliban militants who are hiding near the borders with Afghanistan.
Pakistan's parliament has demanded that the US to end all drone strikes in Pakistan and has blocked crucial NATO supply links in the country till the demand is met.
The supply lines to Afghanistan were cut off after a drone attack killed 24 of Pakistan troops.
The US has already cut $3 billion of military aid to Pakistan after the supply lines were closed.
