President Barack Obama said on Sunday night that Democratic and Republican politicians have reached an agreement to raise the nation’s debt ceiling by $2.1 trillion and cut the federal deficit by as much as $2.5 trillion over the next decade. The U.S. President thanked the two parties in addition to their leaders to make compromise, but also thanks to the American people to pressure Congress to the results, and said that it “is your voice – your letter, your e-mail, your Twitter, your phone to force Washington in the final days of action. “

Obama urged Americans to let their member of Congress know on July 25 and 29, respectively, that they want a balanced approach to reducing the deficit. Almost immediately after each Obama’s call, phone and e-mail as flood poured into the Congress. The following are samples of what people are saying:

"Mr. President I urge you to consider your place in history, and not merely the moment. You have an opportunity to create an effective, lasting legacy. One in which Americans may be proud. The true mark of some our greatest Presidents is this same issue which now confronts you. Compromise. Please recall that you are a Servant, and it is the will of the people that you compromise- and pass a fair bill regarding the debt of this country."

“President Obama was right to push Congress to act and act soon on a long-term solution to the debt ceiling. We can’t just kick the can down the road for another six months. The uncertainty of the debt negotiations has caused consumers to slow spending and businesses to slow hiring. Any default or short-sighted solution could wreak havoc on our economic recovery.”

Obama won the debt negotiation from people power again.
