Iranian naval ships pass through Suez
Two Iranian naval ships have been given permission to pass through the Suez Canal.
It is the first time since Iran's 1979 Islamic revolution this has been allowed to happen.
The Israeli government has objected strongly to the ships being given passage through the canal, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu deeming the action as "grave."
Egypt made the decision to allow the two Iranian naval vessels to transit the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean en route to Syria, an Israeli enemy.
The Israelis have said they fear the move is part of Iran's efforts to project its military might at a time when the balance of power in the region appears to be shifting toward it.
Israel has shown concern over the past weeks about the ousting in Egypt of its strategic ally Hosni Mubarak.
Some Israeli political analysts have predicted Egypt will see the emergence of a regime dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood in Cairo, which is more closely aligned to Iran.
