The Israel Foreign Ministry has accused a Norwegian council of funding an anti-Israel play.

Referring to the play as an incitement for those who wish to "de-legitimise" Israel, the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem has questioned the Trondheim Municipality over its promotion of the play and an accompanying exhibition.

The municipality is funding a trip to New York for students taking part in the play: "Gaza Monologues," which portrays the suffering of children in Gaza as a result of the Israeli occupation.

The exhibition shows pictures of deceased Palestinian children next to Israel Defence Forces helmets.

An Israeli flag drenched in blood is also part of the exhibition, as is a documentary film called "Tears of Gaza," which will travel to other festivals around the world.

The film also deals with the suffering of Gaza's children and shows everyday Gazans chanting the words: "Slaughter the Israelis."

Recently a book was released in Norway accusing IDF soldiers of deliberately killing women and children.

It has become a bestseller in the country and has even been recommended in the press by Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Store.

The Israeli Embassy in Norway has strongly protested to Norwegian authorities about what it has referred to as the demonising of Israel.

Norway has responded to the Israeli criticism by saying that the government supports the freedom of artistic expression and will not intervene.
