20 die, 50 hurt in Iraq blasts
The toll in two bomb blasts in Iraq's Kut city Tuesday has risen to 20, Xinhua reported.
A roadside bomb and an explosives-laden car went off within seconds of one another in the al-Amil district of Kut, the capital of Wasit province, some 170 km southeast of Baghdad.
Over 50 people were wounded in the blasts around 5.30 p.m. The target of the attack was not immediately known.
The toll could rise as many of the injured were in a critical condition, a source from the interior ministry told Xinhua requesting anonymity. About 10 shops and many cars were damaged.
Columns of black smoke could be seen rising above the site, the source added.
Media reports said earlier that three car bombs had been detonated, while the provincial governor had said three people were killed and about 60 others wounded.
