Gun battle breaks out at Kandahar Air Field.
An attack has been launched on the largest foreign military base in Afghanistan.
Rockets were fired at the base, backed up by a ground attack by militants.
ISAF military authorities have claimed six or more insurgents were killed during the gun battle, which was set off after a suicide bomber blew himself up outside the Kandahar base.
Other suicidal militants, who had explosives attached to them, were shot as they made their move to enter the base.
An ISAF soldier and some civilians were injured when rockets were fired into the grounds of the Kandahar Air Field.
