Al-Qaeda centres bomb attack on normally quiet Iraq city
At least 12 people have been killed in the Iraqi city of Kut in southern Iraq.
Dozens of others were wounded as a roadside bomb
and a car bomb were detonated almost simultaneously in the busy gold dealing area of Kut.
The twin attack was believed to have been organised by al-Qaeda, which has recently been disrupting the stability of generally safe and calm cities.
The city of Kut, on the left bank of the Tigris River, about 100 miles south east of Baghdad, has not recently been involved in any bombing incident.
An American military installation is located directly across the river from Kut.
