The clashes in Thailand escalates, leaving 17 dead
The clashes between the Thai Army and the so-called Red Shirts, supporters of former Prime Minister of Thailand Thaksin Shinawatra, spread to Bangkok’s Silom Road and Rama IV Road on April 15. The Thai government reported that, in three days of clashes, 17 people were killed and 171 people were injured. Bangkok was engulfed in fires and rioting.
According to the local Thai media, a police station was hit, leaving countless people injured, and a medical staff member was shot dead. Because the clashes escalated, the city’s elevated train and subway were shut down. On-going bombing and gunfire shook the neighborhoods of the protest zone, and currently there are no news reporters in the Red Shirts’ encampment.
