The Home Secretary announces plans to crack down on ‘deal-lines’ used by county lines drugs gangs.

Drug gangs using mobiles and couriers to deal remotely in UK rural areas, including coastal and market towns, will have phones shut down, under new plans announced by UK Home Secretary on 22 January.

Workers' rights: "Labour laws need updating to cover new forms of employment"

Workers' rights are increasingly coming under pressure due to developments such as global competition and the digital revolution. The European Commission is working on plans to improve the situation. On 19 January MEPs adopted a report stating that workers in new type of jobs should be covered by labour laws.

Children’s needs central to response as Gambia uncertainty continues

UNICEF and partners working with Senegalese authorities on emergency plans to support displaced children in host communities

As the Gambia faces an uncertain political transition, the situation raises concerns for the nearly 26,000 people – half of them children – who have left the country to neighbouring Senegal. The threat of unrest has also left thousands of children in the Gambia without access to education following the closure of schools in parts of the country.
