Norway Contributes US$4.8 Million to an IMF Fund for Natural Resources Management

On October 7, Norway signed a contribution of NOK40 million (about US$4.8 million) to a new phase of the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF)’s Managing Natural Resource Wealth Fund. Mr. Jon Lomøy, Director General of the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and Ms. Carla Grasso, IMF Deputy Managing Director, signed the letter of understanding in Washington on October 7.

European Commission welcomes landmark international agreement to curb aviation emissions

The European Commission welcomes the landmark agreement reached yesterday by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), with the adoption of a Global Market-Based Measure (GMBM) to reduce international aviation emissions. The European Union and its Member States played an instrumental role in brokering this deal, which constitutes the first-ever agreement to reduce CO2 emissions in a global sector. Days after the ratification of the Paris Agreement by the EU, this new multilateral deal shows that the EU is committed to keep global warming well below 2°C. It is also a key deliverable under the European Strategy for low-emission mobility recently adopted by the Commission.

Colombian Government and FARC-EP request UN to authorize Mission to continue supporting ceasefire

The Colombian Government and the country’s largest rebel group announced on 7 October that they are willing to press ahead on the goals of the historic peace accord that was rejected by voters this past weekend, while the two sides also requested that the United Nations Mission in the country continue its work, particularly relating to monitoring the ceasefire.
