More women and their children are surviving today than ever before, according to new child and maternal mortality estimates released on Sep 19, 2019 by United Nations groups* led by UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Rwandan Militia Leader Wanted for War Crimes Killed in Congo

The commander of a Rwandan Hutu militia wanted for alleged war crimes has been killed in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Sylvestre Madacumura, leader of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), was killed Wednesday morning in Congo's North Kivu province, according to military sources in the region who spoke to VOA's Central Africa service.

UNICEF welcomes the recent amendment of Indonesia’s Marriage Act (1974) which has raised the age that girls can be married with parental permission from 16 to 19 years to be in line with the age for boys, which is also 19.
