Pay gap between men and women: MEPs call for binding measures to close it
Despite the EU’s 2006 Directive on equality between men and women in the labour market, differences in their pay persist and are even growing, say MEPs in a non-legislative resolution voted on Thursday. As member states did not take the opportunity to update their laws on equal opportunities and treatment, MEPs urge the EU Commission to table fresh legislation "providing for more effective means of supervising the implementation and enforcement in member states".

Syria: New Russian-Made Cluster Munition Reported
An advanced type of Russian cluster munition was used in an airstrike southwest of Aleppo on October 4, 2015, Human Rights Watch said on October 10. The use of the weapon near the village of Kafr Halab raises grave concerns that Russia is either using cluster munitions in Syria or providing the Syrian air force with new types of cluster munitions to use.

The Inspiration That is Malala Caught on Film
In the documentary film “He Named Me Malala,” we see Malala Yousafzai at school, at home, and in her work as an advocate for children’s education. A Pakistani schoolgirl who survived being shot in the head by a Taliban gunman, Malala is also the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize. It can be easy to forget that she’s also a teenage girl, something the documentary – released in the United States on Ocbober 9 – reminds of us of, as we see her worrying about school and fitting in. Syria: Apparent Russian Airstrikes Kill Civilians
Apparent Russian airstrikes on Talbiseh in northern Homs that killed at least 17 civilians should be investigated for possible violations of the laws of war. Two local media activists and two first responders said that the September 30, 2015 strikes hit a residential part of town at a distance from any apparent military targets and that no combatants were killed in the strike.
