The first major event of the tech industry in 2025—the Consumer Electronics Show (CES)—is set to open grandly on January 7 in Las Vegas. The 2024 CES focused on applications of generative AI, and this year’s CES continues to revolve around AI as its central theme. The CES 2025 Innovation Awards span 33 categories, with a record-breaking number of entries. AI claimed the fastest-growing category, with the number of entries increasing by nearly 50% compared to last year.

The event’s organizer, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), held a pre-show press conference to share this year’s focal points. In addition to emphasizing AI applications, highlights include virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and extended reality (XR) in the metaverse, digital health, mobile devices, energy sustainability, quantum computing, automation, transportation, and autonomous vehicles.

Reports indicate that several major tech companies hosted press conferences in the days leading up to the event. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang is also set to deliver a keynote speech on the eve of the opening, showcasing NVIDIA’s innovative achievements. It is rumored that Huang will unveil the next-generation RTX 50 series graphics cards at CES, while autonomous vehicles and humanoid robots are expected to be other key areas of interest.

CES 2025 is projected to feature participation from over 4,000 companies from approximately 150 countries worldwide. Given President-elect Donald Trump’s repeated mentions of imposing higher tariffs, many analysts believe that the increased cost of imports due to tariffs will be a critical concern for exhibitors targeting the U.S. market.
