Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) kicked off early morning on the 11th Taiwan time, announcing a highly anticipated collaboration with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into Siri, allowing for the use of different AI language models. Apple also emphasized that more options are expected to be available in the future, with a focus on AI integration in applications and maintaining security and privacy.

It is understood that since the rise of generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) technology at the end of 2022, many well-known tech companies have gradually introduced AI technology into their products. As anticipated, Apple has integrated ChatGPT directly into new systems such as iOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and iPadOS 18 this year. When Siri encounters a question it cannot answer, it will switch to ChatGPT for assistance. Additionally, ChatGPT can assist in rewriting articles and drafting documents on Mac or iPad computers. Apple is integrating OpenAI technology into the iPhone 15 Pro and iPad and Mac products equipped with M1 or more advanced chips.

The collaboration between Apple and OpenAI has become a major global highlight this year. Apple announced that its AI features would be available in a test version for users this fall, allowing the creation of various content such as menu information and writing tools using ChatGPT. As for Apple's new voice assistant Siri, utilizing OpenAI's chatbot ChatGPT, users will be able to use it for free without a ChatGPT subscription. Siri will interpret user queries, request information-sharing approval, and handle complex voice instructions more effectively. If users have subscribed to OpenAI's paid ChatGPT plan, they can integrate paid features within Siri and Apple's ChatGPT application.

Craig Federighi, Apple's Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, emphasized Apple's focus on privacy and security, promising never to store or access user data. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman also stated that their commitment to safety and innovation aligns with Apple's, and that incorporating their products into Apple devices will elevate Apple products to new heights. However, American tech mogul Elon Musk stated that his company would ban the use of iPhones, expressing concerns over what might happen if Apple hands over user data to OpenAI.
