Cost-Effective Method Measures Industrial Water, Wastewater Pollutants Quickly, Accurately
The application of the sensor decreases the cost to detect toxic materials, including arsenic in test samples. In addition, the sensor analyzes the characteristics of chemicals faster than the conventional methods.
The application of polymers cast with arsenic ion in the production of potentiometric sensor results in the production of a sensor with high selectivity and appropriate detection limit to sense arsenic. A major problem in the application of these sensors is the low lifetime of membrane electrodes due to the diffusion of water into the membrane structure, and the damage to the membrane structure. Therefore, efforts have been made in this research to overcome this problem.
Casting polymers were synthesized at nanometric dimensions for arsenic ions to increase the lifetime of membrane electrode. Therefore, their hydrophilic properties were reduced by connecting alkyl chains to the surface of nanoparticles. In the next stage, the synthesized polymeric nanoparticles were used in the production of a membrane electrode sensitive to arsenic ion. The performance of the final sensor was evaluated in the sensing of arsenic ions in real samples.
The final sensor has lower detection limit but wider linear response range in comparison with the previous sensors. In addition, the application of casting polymeric nanoparticles results in the production of more homogenous membrane electrodes with higher quality, which is definitely effective in the performance of the final sensor.
