The aim of the research was to produce silver nanoparticles from herbal tissue of a special type of eucalyptus, and to study operation conditions on the size of particles.

According to the researchers, the production method is cheap, simple and environmentally friendly, which enables the production of silver nanoparticles without the need for any catalyst or surfactant.

The method is considered a green chemistry method and does not require high temperature, pressure or energy with no need to toxic chemicals while it produces particles with appropriate chemical and physical properties.

The researchers studied the possibility of production of silver nanoparticles from the solution of silver nitrate by using the extract of eucalyptus oleosa tree. In this research, the effects of various parameters, including the extract concentration, silver nitrate concentration, extraction temperature and reaction time were also studied and optimized on the production process to produce silver nanoparticles at the minimum possible size.

As it was expected, results proved the presence of small amounts of the ingredients of eucalyptus extract on the surface of the produced silver nanoparticles. The biological-based nanoparticles have average diameter of 21 nm, and they have applications in textile, medical and pharmaceutical industries.
