Researchers Apply Corms Extract for Production of Silver Nanoparticles
Iranian researchers produced silver nanoparticles by using the extract of corms as the reductive solution.
Results of the research are considered as an important step towards reducing environmental pollution and development of green chemistry.
According to Dr. Babak Sadeqi Garmaroudi, one of the researchers, the extract of corms is biocompatible.
Taking into consideration the biocompatibility of the product and the simple and cost-effective method of the reaction, the quick synthesis of silver nanoparticles in various sizes is possible.
This method can be considered a good replacement for chemical reduction methods, and it can extend the application of nanoparticles in intra-major sciences, including phytochemistry, medical sciences, pharmaceutics and so on.
The produced silver nanoparticles are spherical with average diameter of 25-35 nm.
Since the antibacterial effect of silver nanoparticles has been clearly proved, the results of the research can be used in the production of different types of detergents and packaging industries.
The interesting point is that silver nanoparticles stabilized with plant extracts can be adsorbed by cells more than the particles coated with chemical stabilizers (polymers).
"The reason for this phenomenon is that nanoparticles stabilized with plant extracts contain proteins and various fibers on their surface," Dr. Sadeqi explaining about the process said.
He noted that in this case, it is more probable for them to enter the cells through multiple receivers of protein than to be absorbed by double receivers of protein and chemical polymer.
"The transfer for protein, drugs and oligonucleotides into cells can be adjusted through this method by changing the shape and size of nanoparticles attached to them," Dr. Sadeqi concluded.
