Recovery of the Chinese Tourism Market
The Data Center of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China announced the tourism statistics for the 3-day New Year's Day holiday. Compared to the same period in 2019 before the Xin Guan epidemic, China's domestic tourism reached 135 million trips, an increase of 9.4% compared to 2019, and tourism revenue reached RMB 79.73 billion, an increase of 5.6% compared to 2019. Although, the number of outbound flights is still about 30% less than that before the epidemic, the number of outbound travelers has recovered to the level of the same period before the epidemic (2019).
Statistics also show that due to the growth of cultural tourism consumption in China during the New Year's Day holiday this year, the sales volume of hotels, air tickets, train tickets, attraction tickets and other businesses on the travel platform hit record highs during the same period of the calendar year, with the sales volume of tickets for sightseeing attractions increasing by 302%, or five times more than the same period in 2020.
The hottest foreign travel destinations for this year's New Year's Day holiday are Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Tokyo, Phuket, Seoul, Dubai, Ho Chi Minh City, Manila and Chiang Mai. And Thailand became the first place of the popular tourist attractions abroad for this holiday due to visa-free access.
