Man in court after Operation Appleby arrest
A man will appear in court today following investigations by Operation Appleby.
Operation Appleby is an ongoing operation being conducted by the Sydney-based Joint Counter Terrorism team (JCCT) which is investigating persons suspected to be involved in domestic terrorist acts, foreign incursions into Syria and Iraq and the funding of terrorist organisations.
On 18 December, 2014 a search warrant was executed at a home in Clarence Street, Condell Park. Police seized a .303 bolt action rifle, a shortened shotgun, a double barrel shotgun and a large amount of ammunition.
At 2.30pm yesterday (Friday 9 January, 2015) a 21-year-old man attended Surry Hills Police Station where he was arrested.
He was charged with outstanding first instance warrants regarding the following alleged offences:
• Possess Unauthorised Firearm x 2
• Possess Shortened Firearm
• Possess Unregistered Firearms x 3
• Unauthorised possession of ammunition x 1
• Not ensure safe keeping of firearm x 2
The 21-year-old Condell Park man was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 10 January, 2015).
