Significant organised crime operation
WA and Australian Government agencies attached to Project Tricord and Operation Polo executed a series of search warrants this morning, Saturday 3 May 2014, as part of their ongoing efforts to identify, target and dismantle organised crime syndicates operating in Western Australia.
About 4:00am this morning dozens of search warrants were executed in Western Australia and Victoria by WA Police, Australian Federal Police and the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service.
A significant police presence remains in the Carabooda area.
The search warrants form part of a complex investigation focused on money laundering and other illegal activities. The government agencies involved in the planning of this operation include:

o Australian Crime Commission
o Australian Federal Police
o Australian Customs and Border Protection Service
o Department of Immigration and Border Protection
o Corruption and Crime Commission
o Australian Taxation Office
o Australian Securities & Investment Commission
o Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre
As a result of the search warrants more than 180 foreign nationals are currently being questioned. WA Police is working with the Department of Immigration and Border Protection to identify suspected illegal workers.
A significant number of items of interest were seized during the search warrants including cash, firearms and computers. Searches of the properties are continuing.
