Class action filed against Google Books
Following a federal case in the US, Google Inc can now be sued by groups of authors.
Federal judge Denny Chin has ruled that a Google plan to create the world's largest digital book library can be challenged in a class action.
Google had attempted dismiss an Authors Guild claim that the publishing of millions of out-of-print works would amount to massive copyright infringement.
Several groups, including authors, photographers and artists, will be able to join the class action rather than having to sue Google individually.
The case had arisen over a Google agreement with several research libraries to digitally copy books for the Google Books website
