Human rights violations in Eastern Ukraine and political consequences of the conflict: PACE rapporteurs to visit Ukraine
Marieluise Beck (Germany, ALDE) and Kristýna Zelienková (Czech Republic, ALDE), rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), will make a joint fact-finding visit to Kyiv, Mariupol and Dnipropetrovsk from 4 to 7 April, in the context of the preparation of their reports, which focus respectively on the “Legal remedies to human rights violations on the Ukrainian territories outside the control of the Ukrainian authorities”, and on the “Political consequences of the crisis in Ukraine”.
In Kyiv, Ms Beck and Ms Zelienková are due to meet the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, the Ministers for Foreign Affairs and Internal Affairs, as well as heads of political factions and members of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE. Meetings are also scheduled with representatives of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, the international and diplomatic community, representatives of civil society and the media, as well as with witnesses of human rights violations.
In Mariupol, the rapporteurs will meet representatives of local authorities and international organisations, as well as people living in the occupied territories, victims and witnesses of human rights violations, and local NGOs. They will also visit sites of rocket attacks, one checkpoint for persons wishing to cross over the demarcation line, and a former place of illegal detention.
Ms Beck and Ms Zelienková will also travel to Dnipropetrovsk, where they will meet representatives of international organisations and local NGOs.
