Women, Peace and Security: OSCE affirms role of regional organizations at United Nations Security Council
In a statement to the UN Security Council, OSCE Senior Gender Adviser Ambassador Miroslava Beham outlined the Organization’s key contribution to maintaining international peace and security through its work on women, peace and security.
The OSCE is dedicated to increasing women’s participation in conflict prevention, crisis management and post conflict rehabilitation.
Since 2005, the OSCE has been dedicated to increasing women’s participation in conflict prevention, crisis management and post conflict rehabilitation, Beham told the meeting.
She spoke of efforts of both in the field and in the varied OSCE institutions to integrate a gender perspective into political-military action and highlighted the Organization’s work on gender and rule of law in conflict affected contexts; announcing the upcoming launch on 24 October of the OSCE Guidance Note on Gender Responsive Mediation, an important tool for OSCE mediators and envoys, and others involved in this important area. .
This is the first time that the OSCE has made a statement at the annual UN Security Council Open Debate on Women, Peace and Security.
