Germany offers temporary resettlement to 5,000 Syrian refugees
Germany has agreed to resettle on a temporary basis some 5,000 vulnerable Syrian refugees living in Lebanon, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The refugees to be resettled have been identified by UNHCR and will travel on IOM charter flights from Beirut to Hanover, Germany over the next year.
IOM has begun to provide medical screening and to conduct language and cultural orientation classes for the first group of 109 Syrian refugees who will travel to Germany in mid-September.
Jumbe Omari Jumbe from IOM says the refugees will be able to secure immediate protection and will remain in Germany until such time as they are able to return home in safety and dignity or find other durable solutions.
"IOM medical escorts will travel with the flight to help refugees with special needs. After arriving in Hanover, the refugees will travel to a reception center in Friedland for six weeks where they will participate in an extended cultural orientation programme before being resettled in various parts of Germany. In Germany they will receive comprehensive support including rental assistance and access to medical and social services."
Lebanon continues to maintain an open border policy and is currently hosting over 718,000 Syrian refugees.
