UNESCO Director-General condems murder of Libyan TV presenter Azzedine Qusad and voices concern for safety of journalists
UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova today called for an investigation into the killing of Azzedine Qusad on 9 August.
“I condemn the murder of Azzedine Qusad,” the Director-General said. “I call on the authorities to investigate this crime and ensure that journalists are able to carry out their work in safe conditions. Freedom of expression and press freedom can provide an invaluable contribution to the efforts of Libya to build a better future for citizens after a period of conflict.”
Azzedine Qusad was a television presenter for independent broadcaster for Lybia Al-Hurra. The young journalist was sitting in his car in Benghazhi when he was shot dead by three unidentified gunmen. His killing occurred after two other journalists were subjected to violent attacks in recent days.
Qusad is remembered in the dedicated webpage, UNESCO Condemns the Killing of Journalists.
