Erie Man Pleads Guilty to Federal Drug Charges
A resident of Erie, Pennsylvania pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of violating federal drug laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
Jagannon Stephon Williams, 28, pleaded guilty to one count before United States District Judge Sean J. McLaughlin.
In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that on April 23, 2009, Williams agreed to sell an ounce of crack cocaine to another individual for $750.00. Williams then entered a residence in Erie, Pennsylvania, where he retrieved and then delivered the crack cocaine. Then, on May 6, 2009, Williams again agreed to sell an ounce of crack cocaine, this time retrieving the drug and delivering it from another residence in Erie, Pennsylvania. In connection with the guilty plea, Williams agreed that the two drug transactions involved 61.5 grams of crack cocaine.
Judge McLaughlin scheduled sentencing for September 15, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. The law provides for a total sentence of 40 years in prison, a fine of $2,000,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offense and the criminal history of the defendant.
Williams was ordered to be detained in the Erie County Prison pending sentencing.
Assistant United States Attorney Marshall J. Piccinini is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The EAGLE task force, which is comprised of members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Erie Police Department, conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Williams.
