CTF preparing to urge Calgarians to Vote "NO" in Olympics Plebiscite

Following the day before of Calgary decision to continue pursuing an Olympic bid, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) announced it is preparing to urge Calgarians to vote “NO” in a soon-to-be-approved plebiscite on Apr 17, 2018.

“Make no mistake, the Olympics are fun to watch on TV, but we just can’t afford an Olympic bid right now,” said CTF Alberta Director Colin Craig. “Many households and businesses are already struggling with existing property tax increases. The Olympics would also drive up government debt even further.”

Craig noted the provincial and federal governments have no money for an Olympic bid:
Provincial debt is currently rising by $1,243,264 per hour.
Federal debt is currently rising by $2,066,210 per hour.

“Hosting the Olympics would be like maxing out your credit card to throw a house party,” added Craig. “That’s just reckless. We should sit this round out.”

The CTF is encouraging taxpayers to visit NoOlympicBid.ca to sign up for updates from the “NO” side. In the coming weeks the CTF will hold an official campaign launch and release a new website with important facts about an Olympic bid.
