EP this week: anti-terrorism measures, economic governance, climate agreement | WPN World People News

Parliamentarians meet in their committees this week, and on Wednesday in plenary, to discuss Commission president Juncker's investment plan, anti-terrorism measures and the international climate agreement. Meanwhile German and Italian finance ministers Wolfgang Schäuble and Pier Carlo Padoan will review rules for economic governance in the Parliament, and president Martin Schulz will take part in the International Holocaust Remembrance Day in Prague.

On Tuesday the German and Italian finance ministers Wolfgang Schäuble and Pier Carlo Padoan review economic governance and discuss upcoming challenges with the economic and monetary affairs committee.

Members of the international trade and legal affairs committees discuss regulatory aspects of the TTIP trade agreement, arbitration and the investor to state dispute settlement (ISDS) in a hearing on Tuesday. The exchange will be led by the chairs of the two committees Bernd Lange (international trade) and Pavel Svoboda (legal affairs).

A deal on new legislation to fight money laundering, tax crimes and terrorist financing will be put to a vote in the economic and monetary affairs and civil liberties committees. Under the deal concluded by Parliament and EU government negotiators, the ultimate owners of companies would have to be listed in central registers, which would be accessible to people with a "legitimate interest", such as investigative journalists.

On Monday Commission vice-president Jyrki Katainen discusses the proposed fund for strategic investments with members of the economic and monetary affairs committee.

Following the attacks on Charlie Hebdo, commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos, EU anti-terrorism coordinator Gilles de Kerchove and representatives of the Radicalisation Awareness Network (RAN) brief the civil liberties committee on "deradicalisation" and foreign fighters on Tuesday.

On Wednesday a plenary session takes place in Brussels. On the agenda is Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker's investment plan which intends to invest €315 billion in the private and public sectors with the aim of boosting growth and jobs in Europe. Commission and Council representatives are due to discuss the plan with MEPs.

In addition, plenary discusses new EU-wide anti-terrorism measures with representatives of the Commission. Also on the agenda will be the roadmap for reaching a global climate agreement in Paris by the end of 2015.

Parliament's president Martin Schulz will deliver the closing speech at the ceremony for the International Holocaust Remembrance Day in Prague on Tuesday. On Wednesday he will meet chairman of the Senate of Pakistan Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari in Brussels.
