World Bank Group President Meets Prime Minister of Ukraine
World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim met with the Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk to discuss the current situation in the country and World Bank Group assistance to Ukraine. President Kim expressed hope that the situation in Ukraine will stabilize soon and confirmed the Bank’s commitment to further supporting people of Ukraine during the difficult transition.
“We recognize the enormous challenges Ukraine is facing and welcome the government’s commitment to undertake reforms that are urgently needed to stabilize the economy and put the country back on a path to sustainable growth and development,” Kim said. “We are committed to continue supporting the Ukrainian people.”
On March 10, the World Bank Group announced that it aims to support reforms in Ukraine and provide up to US$3 billion in 2014. This assistance would come on top of the ongoing investment and guarantee program of about US$3.7 billion, supporting improved basic public service delivery in areas such as water supply, sanitation, power and roads, and supporting the private sector.
