US President Barack Obama has used his weekly radio address to blame Congress for not doing enough to put more Americans back to work.

He cited Republicans in Congress, saying they had not worked hard enough to promote the passage of his jobs bill.

Mr Obama said the passage of the bill would assist states to hire teachers, police officers and other emergency workers, thereby assisting the families of such workers.

Meanwhile, President Obama was heckled on the weekend by a reporter during a press conference.

The president was speaking about granting work permits to young illegal immigrants when Neil Munro of the Daily Caller website interrupted his speech.

President Obama had been suggesting that young illegal immigrants brought to the US by their parents should gain temporary legal status.

Neil Munro of the Daily Caller website interrupted the president, calling on him to answer questions.

With Munro shouting from the pack of reporters, President Obama responded, saying: "Excuse me, sir. It's not time for questions, sir. The next time I'd prefer you let me finish my statements before you ask that question."

He then said: It is the right thing to do for the American people, and here's why... Because these young people are gonna make extraordinary contributions and are already making contributions to our society."
